Outstanding Teacher Award - Residency

Purpose
The Outstanding Teacher - Residency Award recognizes faculty members who demonstrate outstanding communication, collaboration, empathy, engagement, feedback and/or mentorship to residents in the Department of Medical Imaging.

Award
This award will be presented annually to up to 15 recipients. If there are no nominations by the deadline or the candidates do not meet the standard of excellence required for this award, it will not be given that year. 

The award recipient will be notified directly and receive a certificate.  

Criteria and Nomination Process
The recipient(s) of this award must have a primary appointment Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto; self-nominations are not permitted. Faculty members are eligible to receive this award multiple times.

The recipient of this award must be nominated by at least one resident in Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Paediatrics, Neuroradiology or Interventional Radiology at the Department of Medical Imaging.  

Nominees for this award must possess the qualities of an outstanding teacher which include:

• Display an outstanding commitment to teaching residents
• Demonstrate respect in the learning and healthcare environment with a collaborative approach to the trainee and faculty teaching and learning relationship
• Encourage and support residents' enquiries
• Provide effective feedback and assessment of residents  
• Display a genuine interest in residents’ professional development  
• Assist in achieving learning objectives 
• Teaching effectiveness as demonstrated on the LACT scores

Selection Process
This award will be adjudicated by a committee chaired by a designated faculty member in the Department of Medical Imaging.

Selection will include postgraduate Learner Assessment of Clinical Teacher scores, while ensuring a fair representation across sites and divisions.
