COURSE OVERVIEW

This 2-day course, “Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Imaging Basics” is intended to provide learners (cardiac imagers who are mostly radiologists and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologists) with an overview of common diseases encountered that benefit from CMR for diagnosis and management guidance. Course content will also include description of common imaging sequences and their added value, common pitfalls in interpretation, structured reporting templates and tips and tricks for image optimization. The format of the course combines didactic lectures with hands-on learning or simulation where learners can review anonymized CMR cases with live coaching, mentorship and feedback from the course director and teachers. The format of the course was determined by a needs survey sent to learners who already expressed desire in attending a CMR course and during the planning meeting that occurred on November 18th, 2023.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is intended for radiologists, specialist physicians and MRI technologists interested in learning about cardiac MRI.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Improve the knowledge and skills of community radiologists to allow them to competently and independently report cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) cases.
  2. Improve the knowledge and skills of magnetic resonance technologists so that they can perform post-processing of images to assist the community radiologists to independently report CMR cases.

After course completion, learners will be able to:

  1. List the common MR imaging findings of common disease entities and conditions and describe a reasonable differential diagnosis.
  2. List imaging findings that are helpful to differentiate the disease entities or conditions in the differential diagnosis.
  3. Describe common pitfalls and interpretation errors relating to CMR.
