E. L. Lansdown Teaching Award
Dr. Daniel Mandell is a Neuroradiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging – Toronto Western Hospital and Associate Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging. In addition, Dr. Mandell is an Associate Member of the Institute of Medical Science and is the University of Toronto Departmental Division Lead for Neuroradiology.
Dr. Mandell is an exemplary teacher; he is actively involved with teaching residents and fellows at both the program and hospital level. His impact as a teacher is demonstrated by the number of Outstanding Teacher Awards he has received from both groups. Receiving the E.L Lansdown Teaching Award is a tremendous accomplishment awarded to the faculty with the best teaching feedback from the residents.
Dr. Mandell is a very successful invited educational speaker and has presented at some of the foremost educational courses in neuroradiology, including the Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Neuroradiology and the Eastern Neurological Society.
In addition, Dr. Mandell is an Associate Member of the Institute of Medical Science and is the University of Toronto Departmental Division Lead for Neuroradiology.

Dr. Kate Hanneman
Dr. Hanneman is a Cardiothoracic Imaging Radiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) and an Associate Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. Dr. Hanneman is also the Site Director at Women’s College Hospital and the Director of Cardiac Imaging Research at JDMI.
Since joining the department in 2015, Dr. Hanneman has established herself as a Research Rising Star; she has an h-index of 19 with 91 documents and 1160 citations. Dr. Hanneman has built a reputation for herself nationally and internationally by advancing the knowledge in cardiac imaging. Dr. Hanneman’s principal research interests relate to the evaluation of the clinical utility of new cardiovascular imaging techniques and the use of cardiac MRI to improve the outcomes of patients with cardiomyopathies.
Dr. Pejman Maralani
Dr. Maralani is a Neuroradiologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and an Associate Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. Dr. Maralani is also an Affiliate Scientist at the Sunnybrook Research Institute and a member of the Sunnybrook Research Ethics Board. Dr Maralani has recently stepped down as Neuroradiology Residency Program Director after a successful tenure and has recently been named the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2022 William R. Eyler Editorial Fellow.
Since joining the department in 2013, Dr. Maralani has established himself as a Research Rising Star; he has an h-index of 20 with 66 documents and 1143 citations. Dr. Maralani’s primary research activities focus on different applications of advanced MRI techniques in neuro-oncology, particularly in the prediction of outcomes for brain and spine tumors.
Dr. Sangeet Ghai
Dr. Ghai is an Abdominal Imaging Radiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging – Toronto General Hospital and a Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. Dr. Ghai is also the Trachtenberg/Haque Chair in Image Guided Prostate Therapy Research at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Ghai is an internationally renowned researcher with an h-index of 28, 119 documents and 2680 citations. Dr. Ghai’s research interest is in the diagnosis and treatment of localized prostate cancer. Two non-surgical treatment methods, magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound, and magnetic resonance-guided focal laser thermal therapy have undergone significant investigation and clinical translation through Dr. Ghai’s research. Dr. Ghai’s international stature as a result of this research is reflected in a large number of speaking invites around the world to share the results of his work.
Dr. Satheesh Krishna Jeyaraj
Dr. Jeyaraj is an Abdominal Imaging Radiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging – Toronto General Hospital, and an Assistant Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto.
Dr. Jeyaraj is a dedicated clinician; he approaches his work with a keen focus on improving patient care. Since joining the department in 2018, Dr. Jeyaraj has been actively involved in Clinical Practice Improvement. In his role as Director of Abdominal and Pelvic CT at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging, Dr. Jeyaraj has already made a significant impact. He has been reviewing and evaluating CT protocols; there have been multiple benefits for patients, including a reduction in wait time during the peak of COVID.
Dr. Supriya Kulkarni
Dr. Supriya Kulkarni is a Breast Radiologist at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging – Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and an Associate Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto.
Dr. Kulkarni is an outstanding mentor; since joining the department in 2002 she has mentored countless faculty as well as postgraduate learners within the Department of Medical Imaging. Dr. Kulkarni demonstrates all of the qualities a strong mentor should hold; she is patient, a keen listener, an excellent advocate and most importantly she values the diverse voices/perspectives within our department. A key value that Dr. Kulkarni imparts on her mentees is the importance of lifelong learning; she has dedicated countless hours to developing teaching sessions (both local, national and international). She sees each teaching session as an opportunity to foster her own learning through the engagement of the participants.
Dr. Kulkarni was appointed Departmental Division lead for Breast Imaging in December 2020. In this role, Dr. Kulkarni plays a significant role in mentoring faculty throughout their career, with a particular emphasis on supporting newly appointed faculty and those undergoing the Continuing Appointment Review.
Dr. Manohar Shroff
Dr. Shroff is a Neuroradiologist at the Hospital for Sick Children and a Professor within the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto.
Dr. Shroff is a truly remarkable clinician, educator, and researcher. His commitment to the Department of Medical Imaging is exceptional. He has held numerous University departmental leadership positions including Neuroradiology Program Director (2006-2012) and Fellowship Program Director (2004 – 2012). He dedicates countless hours to teaching our postgraduate learners, and mentoring faculty members.
He is also an internationally renowned researcher with an h-index of 40, and 171 documents.
