The Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration – Medical Imaging (TAAAC-MI) is excited to announce its new Co-Directors, Dr. Adriano Basso Dias and Dr. Ali Babaei Jandaghi! The new co-directors will take over the roles of Dr. Josee Sarrazin and Dr. Korosh Khalili, who started their terms in 2011 with the establishment of the program.
The Toronto Addis Ababa Academic Collaboration - Medical Imaging program (TAAAC-MI) is an educational collaboration between the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto, and the Department of Radiology, Addis Ababa University (AAU). The program, which started in 2011, was formalized at the invitation of the AAU Chief of Radiology, with the aim of providing a formal fellowship-level subspeciality training program for AAU Radiology faculty and graduating residents.
For the past 14 years, the TAAAC-MI has trained over 19 Ethiopian subspecialized fellows, including nine fellows in body imaging, six in cardiothoracic and four in musculoskeletal radiology. As new Co-Directors, Drs. Basso Dias and Babaei Jandaghi will support the program’s effective training model, both in Toronto and abroad, and promote the retention of radiologists in Ethiopia.
Co-Director Dr. Basso Dias is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Medical Imaging and Abdominal Radiologist, University Medical Imaging Toronto (UMIT), Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI). He received his Medical Degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Clinicas Hospital of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency and Master’s Degree in Thoracic Radiology at the same university.
Dr. Basso Dias has also completed three clinical fellowships, including Thoracic and Abdominal Imaging Fellowship at Sírio-Libanês Hospital, Sao Paulo, Brazil and two Abdominal Imaging Fellowships at JDMI, University of Toronto (U of T).
Co-Director Dr. Babaei Jandaghi is also an Assistant Professor with the Department of Medical Imaging and an Abdominal Radiologist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He received his Doctor of Medicine as well as completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at the University of Tehran, Iran, and completed a Body Imaging Fellowship and Women’s Imaging Fellowship at St. Michael’s Hospital, U of T.
