AI in MI Fundraising Dinner: That’s a Wrap!
The Department of Medical Imaging hosted its inaugural AI in MI Fundraising Dinner on May 29, and it was an incredible success thanks to everyone who supported, sponsored, organized and attended our event!
Thanks to our incredible sponsors, hospital sites, faculty and alumni, MI was able to raise over $11,000 for our AI fund, a huge accomplishment for our first fundraising dinner. The event was so successful, we have already begun planning next year’s!
The evening began with a cocktail hour in the main lobby of Toronto’s historic Carlu, complete with canapes and socializing, and was followed by a three-course meal while a live band played. As dinner was finishing up, U of T faculty delivered remarks and AI presentations, including opening remarks from MI Chair Dr. Michael Patlas and Temerty Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Lisa Robinson.
Dr. Kate Hanneman, VC, Research, followed Dean Prof. Robinson with a presentation about AI across the Department of Medical Imaging, where she discussed the values and uses of AI in medical imaging as well as the challenges and hurdles that still need to be addressed.
Dr. Errol Colak, UofT Odette Professor in Artificial Intelligence for Medical Imaging, Vice-Chair, RSNA AI Committee and Staff Radiologist, St. Michael’s Hospital, delivered the evening’s keynote speech, titled “AI in Medical Imaging: From Promise to Impact – Closing the Gap Between Expectations and Real-World Value,” which highlighted the high expectations of AI’s impact in healthcare in comparison with where the developments in AI are currently, as well as the potential for AI going forward.
Before and after dinner and presentations, guests were able to use an AI photobooth to take photos in the past or future. Live band SYNERGY & SOUND played during dinner and into the evening.
