Last month, the Society for Pediatric Interventional Radiology (SPIR) held its 12th International Meeting, hosted by The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). MI Professor & Division Head, Interventional Radiology, SickKids, Dr. Joao Amaral, had a few words to share about the event:
"I am excited to share with you a brief recap of the recent 12th International SPIR Meeting, which was held from October 21st to 23rd, 2024, at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
As SPIR president, I think we have led an exceptional event that truly embodied this year's theme, "Back to the Roots, Looking into the Future." The meeting was a vibrant celebration of our active, welcoming, and innovative community, which now boasts over 300 members spanning 24 countries around the globe.
The annual meeting featured both Scientific and Educational sessions, providing a comprehensive platform for knowledge sharing and professional development. This year, for the first time, we introduced a satellite symposium specifically designed for Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurses, and Medical Radiation Technologists. This addition was met with great enthusiasm and participation, highlighting our commitment to inclusivity and collaboration within the field.
As many of you know, the Society of Pediatric Interventional Radiology was born in Toronto, making this year's theme particularly poignant as we honored our roots while also looking forward to the future of pediatric interventional radiology.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making this meeting a tremendous success. We look forward to continuing our journey together and seeing you at next year's event!"
