This year, the Department of Medical Imaging had the honor of participating in the Summer Mentorship Program (SMP) and the STEAM-D (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics Design) Faculty Fair on July 2, an event designed to introduce high school students from low-income neighbourhoods to the field of Radiology. Organized in collaboration with the Office of Access & Outreach at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, this initiative aimed to broaden the horizon for future medical professionals, particularly by promoting diversity and inclusion in radiology.
With over 150 high school students in attendance, the event provided an exciting opportunity for young minds to explore radiology as a potential career. The staff physician leads for this impactful event were Dr. Elsie Nguyen (former Vice-Chair on Support, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity) and Dr. Robert Moreland (Director of Undergraduate Medical Education). The event was spearheaded by Tiffany Ni (PGY2 Radiology Resident), who served as the resident lead.
We would also like to acknowledge our amazing volunteers who helped bring this event to life:
