MI at #CAR2026!

The Canadian Association of Radiologists' (CAR) Annual Scientific Meeting CAR 2026 took place last week and over the weekend in Montreal, and numerous MI faculty and learners were there presenting their work and representing the Department. Great work to everyone who attended! See below the presentations delivered last week.

Presenter: Dr. Michael Patlas, Professor & Chair

Invited Presentation: How to get your manuscript accepted by CARJ? (Invited Presentation)
Invited Presentation: Pancreatic Trauma (Invited Presentation)

Presenter: Dr. Michael McInnis, Assistant Professor

Lecture: ILD Update - fILD guidelines and new IIP Classification
Session: Advances in Cardiothoracic Imaging: Guideline Updates and Diagnostic Pearls
Date: April 18, 2026

Submitting Author/Presenter: Dr. Kay Wu, PGY3 Diagnostic Radiology Resident

Invited Talk: Training in the Age of AI: Pearls, Pitfalls, and the Resident Perspective
Session: AI in Action: From Dictation to Detection
Summary: This presentation will highlight key pearls and pitfalls for the integration of AI into radiology practice from the resident perspective. Practical insights, challenges, and opportunities that trainees experience will be shared as AI becomes increasingly embedded in clinical workflows.

Oral Presentation: Preparing Residents for AI-Integrated Radiology Practice: Needs Assessment and Curriculum Innovation at a Canadian Radiology Program
Authors: DR Residents Kay Wu, Rakhshan Kamran, Alameen Damer, Assoc. Prof. & Dir., Data Science Pascal Tyrrell, & Asst. Prof & Dir., DR Residency Program Charles Yan
Summary: A cross-sectional survey of radiology residents assessing their preparedness for AI-integrated practice identified gaps in AI-related knowledge, confidence, research engagement, and mentorship despite widespread use and optimism. These findings informed the development of a structured curriculum to address core competencies and support safe, effective, and informed clinical integration.

Poster Presentation: Can CT Imaging Features Predict Endocrine Functionality of Adrenal Incidentalomas?
Authors: PGY3 DR Resident Kay Wu, Rosalind Gerson, & Associate Professor Satheesh Krishna
Summary: This retrospective study evaluates whether CT imaging features of adrenal incidentalomas correlate with hormonal activity as determined by post-dexamethasone suppression test cortisol levels.

Presenter: Adam Gaisinsky, U of T Medical Student, under the supervision of Dr. Michael McInnis, Assistant Professor

Oral Presentation: Association of Emphysema with Infectious and Inflammatory Findings at Baseline Lung Cancer Screening
Authors: Adam Gaisinsky, Medical Student, Lara Lim, Fellow, Felipe Castillo Aravena, UHN Cardiothoracic Staff, and Michael McInnis, Assistant Professor

Summary: This research aims to determine how visual or quantitative emphysema scoring is associated with infectious or inflammatory findings on baseline lung cancer screening CT scans. It was found that only visual, radiologist determined, emphysema was independently associated with inflammatory or infectious incidental findings.

Submitting Author: Dr. Nathan Lucchese BellĂ©, Abdominal Imaging Fellow, JDMI

Poster: From Punitive to Positive: Transforming Radiology Culture Through Peer Learning
Authors: Nathan Lucchese BellĂ©, Abdominal Imaging Fellow & Dr. Ania Kielar, Associate Professor
Summary: This study evaluates the implementation of a peer learning model in abdominal imaging and compares it with traditional peer review, focusing on error characterization, educational impact, and quality improvement. Findings suggest that peer learning promotes a more constructive learning environment while maintaining representation of real clinical practice.

Presenter: Dr. Shobhit Mathur, Assistant Professor

Talk: Blunt Cerebrovascular Injuries
Date: April 18, 2026

Submitting Author: Dr. Sara Harsini, PGY1 Diagnostic Radiology Resident

Educational Exhibit: Interpreting PSMA PET with Confidence: A Case-Based Primer on the Updated PSMA-RADS 2.0 System with PET/CT and PET/MR Correlation
Authors: PGY1 DR Resident Sara Harsini, Asst. Prof. Adriano Basso Dias, Seyed Ali Mirshahvalad, Prof. Ur Metser, Asst. Prof. Claudia Ortega, Asst. Prof. Vanessa Murad, & Prof. Patrick Veit-Haibach
Summary: This case-based educational exhibit presents the updated PSMA-RADS 2.0 framework with PET/CT and PET/MR correlation, aiming to improve confidence and consistency in PSMA PET interpretation across a range of clinical scenarios.
