MedLinx Workshop Inspires Early Exploration of Radiology

MedLinx Workshop

MedLinx, offered by the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is a transformative longitudinal program designed for high school students from underrepresented communities who are interested in exploring careers in healthcare. Running from November 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026, the program combines hands-on learning, mentorship, and academic enrichment to provide students with meaningful exposure to the medical field.

On February 10, 2026, the Department of Medical Imaging was proud to participate in MedLinx by hosting an interactive workshop introducing students to point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). Participants had the opportunity to learn about acute abdominal pathology and visualize abdominal structures in real time, gaining firsthand experience with portable handheld ultrasound technology. The session aimed to demystify radiology, highlight its central role in patient care, and encourage early exploration of medical imaging as a future career pathway.

The workshop was created, organized, and facilitated by Adam Gaisinsky (Year 2 Medical Student) and Nicole Bodnariuc (Year 4 Medical Student), under the supervision of Dr. Tanya Chawla.

We are grateful to our radiology residents who generously volunteered their time to lead the hands-on scanning component and guide students through abdominal anatomy and POCUS applications:

  • Lakhdeep Brar (PGY2)
  • Jay Chen (PGY3)

We also thank the medical students who contributed to the development and delivery of the educational content:

  • Jeongin Choi
  • Maria Xiao

Through initiatives like MedLinx, the Department of Medical Imaging remains committed to broadening access to radiology, fostering early mentorship, and inspiring the next generation of healthcare leaders.

The Department of Medical Imaging would also like to thank our vendors who generously donated their equipment for our workshop:
Thank you to GE Canada & Philips for your time and generosity.
