Mentorship and Observership Programs

A) Mentorship Program 

    OBJECTIVES

    1. To establish a relationship between an identified mentor from the Faculty of Medical Imaging and University of Toronto medical student who wants to pursue a residency training program in diagnostic radiology.
    2. To introduce the student to research and to actively engage the student in research projects within the Department of Medical Imaging.
    3. To provide University of Toronto medical students with a mentor from the Faculty of Medical Imaging for career development in diagnostic radiology.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Medical Imaging provides mentorship for medical students who have a desire to pursue radiology as a speciality. Selected medical students will have the opportunity to be paired with an appropriate mentor from the Faculty of Medical Imaging. A structured, but tailorable program for mentorship will be constructed between the mentor and medical student.

    APPLICATION PROCESS

    1. Interested candidates are first required to participate in formal observerships in the Department of Medical Imaging
    2. Application form must be filled out and submitted.
    3. Upon review of application, an interview with the candidate will scheduled.

    B) Observership Program

    OBJECTIVES

    1. To provide a formal introduction to diagnostic radiology as a specialty.
    2. To identify candidates for the Department of Medical Imaging mentorship program.

    DESCRIPTION

    The Department of Medical Imaging provides observership opportunities for University of Toronto medical students who desire exposure to radiology as a speciality. Selected medical students will have the opportunity to be paired with an appropriate supervisor from the Faculty of Medical Imaging. A defined amount of time will be spent in the Department of Medical Imaging, with emphasis on introducing students to the role of the Medical Imaging Department in patient care and to provide experience in exploring a career in Medical Imaging.

    Students who have contacted a Faculty Radiologist directly are still advised to fill out the Observership form to have documentation of their participation in the program.
